Requirements
- B-Degree or equivalent in Journalism/Communication Science and Media Studies/Public Relations.
- Minimum of five (5) to six (7) years in corporate communications coordinating media liaison, events management, web content, public relations and social media which must include 5 years in a management role
- Some background in tourism and conservation practices.
- Knowledge of the Public Access to Information Act (PAIA), Public Relations Code of Ethics and relevant industry-related legislation.
- Knowledge and Skills in Media Relations principles and practice.
- Certificate in Web Management and Digital Marketing.
Responsibilities
Ensure Implementation of internal and external communications strategies
- Create and execute communications strategies that drive customer satisfaction and brand awareness.
- Develop supporting operational plans for the Communications business unit to ensure the execution of the strategic objectives and goals.
- Help drive the development and execution of effective PR strategies.
- Ensure the establishment, maintenance and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures, policies, and guidelines relating to Communications in the region.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the communication strategy using relevant KPIs, such as website analytics, and surveys.
- Monitoring financial control, budget management and the procurement process to ensure compliance with the legislation e.g. (PFMA, PPFA, and BBBEE).
- Ensure expenditure is in line with budget requirements.
Content development & production
- Oversee the creation of content pieces for PR, communications, and campaigns, for instance, blog posts, website descriptions, newsletters, social media conferences/events, press releases, and featured industry articles.
- Identify the effective and important metrics for measuring communications effectiveness.
- Writing, researching, and drafting communication and media plans, which includes, amongst others, content development, messaging, opinion pieces, communications and media strategies and plans.
- Oversee the conceptualisation and execution of social media work plans through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, and messaging and audience identification.
- Train the social media team to respond appropriately to difficult issues that may emerge on various channels like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter.
- Research and data sourcing.
Media management
- Media relations, monitoring, and analysis
- Media liaison and relations, media monitoring and media engagements and excursions.
- Handle press inquiries and requests for interviews.
Produce digital media and multimedia
- Maintaining social media, video and photography, web and SANParks radio and TV.
- Create and distribute digital content i.e. social media activism, website management and SANParks radio and TV.
Stakeholder engagement
- Manage campaign projects in collaboration with other sub-divisions to promote events and achieve strategic goals.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with relevant stakeholders.
- Represent the region at all functions, conferences, and other events.
- Initiate and participate in events, activations, and stakeholder outreach initiatives, which include, amongst others, events and activations, corporate identity, stakeholder management and sectoral engagement.
- Coordinate memorandum of understanding, service level agreements and expenditure review.
Internal communication and publication
- Disseminate communication and information at all levels and publications.
- Write and publish internal communication, internal newsletters, and publications.
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent Computer Skills.
- Events Management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Be available on weekends, public holidays and extended hours.
- Be willing to travel extensively, must be able to work without supervision, with strong attention to detail.
- Be eloquent and comfortable with conducting print, broadcast and TV interviews.
- Ability to improve awareness and reputation of SANParks, Cape Region through social media and regional forums.
- Be able to create, write, edit and publish content for Parks in the Cape Region.
