Employment Information

This position requires a degree in Environmental Management, Town and Regional Planning or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. Post-graduate qualification in Environmental Management, Town and Regional Planning or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 4 years of work experience in environmental management, biodiversity municipal support, capacity building and ecological infrastructure mainstreaming.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: proven experience in mainstreaming of ecological infrastructure within the municipal context; short course in application of the law and policy in environmental management, biodiversity municipal support, capacity building and ecological infrastructure mainstreaming, must be in possession of valid driver’s license and expected to travel.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Support policy advice on the most appropriate legislative and policy solutions for ensuring that environmental management/ ecological infrastructure is mainstreamed into Eco-DRR interventions in four District Municipalities of South Africa;
  • Support the engagement between SANBI and other organisations and stakeholders, with regard to environmental and Eco-DRR regulatory advice;
  • Support the facilitation of capacity development initiatives among officials in four Districts to incorporate biodiversity priorities and Eco-DRR considerations in their work; and
  • Support the compilation of a baseline assessment of existing risk management frameworks, tools and approaches for ecological and built infrastructure in four Districts.
