The most suitable candidate should have the following qualifications and experience:
An Engineering or Science Master’s degree in an energy-related field, whilst a PHD in the related subject matters will be an added advantage and executive leadership qualification (e.g. MBL, MBA, etc),
Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer, Technologist or any relevant profession registration will be an added advantage
At least 15 years’ demonstrable Senior Management experience, of which 5 years is at the executive management level.
7 – 10 years’ knowledge and experience in managing large-scale projects, including project management, project development and energy research environment.
Extensive experience and knowledge of the South African Energy Industry Energy Policy (Renewable Energy, Cleaner Fossil Fuels, Cleaner Mobility, Energy Efficiency, Smart Grids, Digitalisation, Policy support functions), within the Energy space would be beneficial.
Knowledge and understanding of Global energy trends
Proven leadership skills and experience in partnering with the Board and stakeholders in the energy sector
Strong financial acumen, the ability to drive strategic development and improve operational performance, and Unquestionable integrity with the ability to inspire confidence and develop excellent relations with all stakeholders
Duties/Outputs, amongst others, are:
Strategic Management:
Responsible for the development and driving the implementation of the Organisation’s Strategic Plans, Vision and Objectives.
Oversee the development of Annual Operational Plans, Annual Performance Plans and reporting prescribed by the National Treasury Regulations and Guidelines.
Act as a Thought Leader on matters relating to energy innovation and the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Oversee all operational and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy of the organisation.
Ensure optimisation of funding initiatives.
Overall responsibility for the performance of all Programmes within SANEDI.
Ensure organisational compliance with legislation.
Operations Management
Ensure communication, knowledge sharing and interdependence across programmes to maximise efficiency in the organisation.
Apply forward-thinking to re-imagine organisational processes in line with stakeholder requirements to create value within specified time periods.
Make use of analytics for decision-making and forecasting purposes.
Understand and define the key requirements to take initiatives to the market.
Oversee due diligence on applications before approval and during execution. Interact with external parties and internal parties for partnering and funding of input on active projects.
Determine the appropriate next stage to follow on projects and proactively engage with appropriate sponsors to socialise the projects, attract next stage
funding and keep the momentum of projects going.
Oversee negotiation of contracts with stakeholders as per the delegation of authority.
Financial Management
Responsible for the approval and presentation of the annual budget for SANEDI in line with the PFMA.
Ensure the financial focus is aligned with the strategy of the organisation.
Monitor and advise staff on achieving project targets.
Oversee the procurement, management and supervision of third- party contractors or service providers
Proactively initiate an investigation and take action on any items of over expenditure.
Governance, Risk Management and Management Reporting
Oversee consolidation, approval and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the performance of SANEDI.
Participate in regular feedback sessions with the Department of Electricity and Energy, and the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Proactively identify and address internal and external challenges to protect the organisation.
Ensure compliance with the implementation of policies and procedures and applicable legislation as required
Stakeholder Management
Identify, build and nurture trust and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Lead conversations with the industry around energy-related issues and specialisation. Act as an industry expert.
Interact closely with the Minister, the Board, government officials, the public and other stakeholders in maintaining positive relationships for the organisation.
Engage with industry stakeholders, including potential donors and partners, to position the organisation strategically.
Quality Management
Ensure alignment of all work processes to the required quality standards.
Monitor agreed quality initiatives, ensuring that they are aligned to business processes and delivered as agreed.
People Management
Oversee the preparation of the Programmes’ performance contracts and biannual performance reviews in line with the Human Capital Guidelines.
Initiate change initiatives required to enhance the Programmes’ effectiveness.
Oversee the implementation of succession planning and talent management within SANEDI.
Ensure talent is retained through people management processes and a creative, supportive learning environment.
Coach and mentor employees to achieve higher performance.
Ensure general discipline and compliance in the areas of responsibility, and ensure corrective action is taken on all misconduct incidents.
Ensure adherence to all Human Capital policies, procedures and requirements to ensure sound people practices.
Monitor staff morale and address any issues of concern.
