An appropriate NQF level 7 qualification in Environmental Health. Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Environmental Health Practitioner and in good standing. At least three years’ experience in Environmental Health at supervisory/management preferably as an Assistant Director, or junior management level. Experience in policy making and guideline development. Knowledge of related legislation applicable to environmental management, water, sanitation and hygiene. Knowledge on related norms, standards, strategies, policies and international commitments. Knowledge on project management and stakeholder management. Good communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, planning, organizing, analytical, project management, conflict management, problem solving, decision making and computer skills (MS Office packages). A valid driver’s license
Ensure compliance of the Department to the requirement of the National Environmental Management Act, 107 of 1998. Develop an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the department and review it every five (5) years. Develop an environmental management strategy for the health sector. Develop and revise wash related policies, strategies, guidelines and norms and standards. Conduct stakeholder engagements and consultation on drafted policies, legislation and strategies. Coordinate the water, sanitation and hygiene implementation programmes. Facilitate the development of the country hygiene roadmap and ensure the implementation of global hygiene commitments and strategies. Manage the Sub-Directorate.
